Have more trees and community education, says GUST

More community education, more new trees and less "needless felling" are needed to create cooler, shadier neighbourhoods on the Peninsula, according the Grow Urban Shade Trees group.

Group member Ms Jen Wilder said that Central Coast Council Administrator Mr Rik Hart recently agreed that the Peninsula was "denuded of trees".

Ms Wilder posted a photo to social media of a yellow bloodwood, planted about four years ago, which "shows the extent of the problem and the simplicity of the solution".

"We are excited to say this yellow bloodwood grew its very first blossoms this year, attracting birds and pollinators into our community.

"In no time at all it will become one of our much-needed big canopy-providers too.

"The sooner we can get more community education around trees, less needless felling and more new trees in the ground the better."
